Cylindrical Moorcroft Vase 16inch Tall Moorcroft Florian Ware Base Mark

This Moorcroft Vase was given to me recently by a friend who suggested it was valuable. I am told it is of Florian ware design. The somewhat sombre colouring, to my mind, might well affect its value but I am not an antique expert.

The number on the bottom in red is 347807

Possibly a fake?

Hi - I don't want to be pessimistic but it doesn't look right to me. The shape is wrong, the glaze looks too lustrous and the signature isn't quite right either. Moorcroft has been faked so perhaps you should take it to an expert for an opinon. Hope I'm wrong. Cheers

Moorcroft Florian Ware
by: Kat

Hi Bruce,

Your photos aren't very clear but your vase appears to be a typical early Florian ware pattern with a hand painted William Moorcroft signature with 'des' below.

These marks sometimes appear with the pattern registration number and with the MacIntyre Florian Ware mark, dating between c1898 and c1913.

Value, as always, depends on condition and the fact there is no Macintyre mark may be an issue.

There is currently an 8.5inch Moorcroft Florian Ware Poppy Vase c1898-1906 being auctioned on ebay for around $1000.
